Dr Stephen Codrington
B.A. (Hons I), Dip. Ed., Ph.D. F.A.C.E., F.N.G.T.A., F.R.G.S.,
F.G.S.N., F.I.B.A., M.O.I.F.
With a Doctorate of Philosophy in Geography in addition to his
teaching qualifications, Dr Stephen Codrington is a committed
international educator who has held Principals’ position
in four IB schools continuously for the past 16 years.
He came to Li Po Chun United World College in
May 2004, having previously been Head of Prince Alfred College
in Adelaide,
Australia, and having also taught in England and New Zealand.
Dr Codrington’s experience with the IB includes his recent
6-year term as Deputy Chief Examiner in Geography. He is the
author of the world’s first and most widely used textbook
for IB Diploma Geography, Planet Geography, this being the most
recent of some 20 educationally-oriented books he has written.
His dedication to the IB was further reflected in his running
a number of workshops for IB teachers in many cities including
Auckland, Melbourne, Guangzhou, Adelaide, and in 2001, at the
Li Po Chun UWC in Hong Kong.
Dr Codrington has a passionate interest in Mainland
China expressed through research and writings, and through more
than 30 visits
there since 1982. He has also led study tours for students and/or
teachers to such diverse locations as Mainland China, Burma,
Russia, Irian Jaya, Uzbekistan, Papua New Guinea, Thailand and
Malaysia supplementing his own research studies that have taken
him to over 60 countries. In 2005 he led a group of students
to North Korea, the first group of foreign students ever to visit
that country.
Dr Codrington has a strong commitment to excellence
in education and, in line
with
the UWC
concept,
to actions that develop authentic international understanding,
thus making the world a safer and happier place for future
generations.
An Australian by birth, Dr Codrington is married
and has four children.
