Director Of Studies

Martin Gough

Martin Gough

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Martin Gough to the position of Director of Studies and IB Co-ordinator at Li Po Chun United World College. He will commence duties in August 2008, replacing Dr John Green who will leave the College at that time after 12 years of distinguished and generous service.

British by birth and nationality, Martin has taught for over 24 years in several schools, including international schools in India, USA, Oman, Denmark, Malwai and Vietnam. He comes to us from his present position of Head of the High School at ISHCMC (International School of Ho Chi Minh City) in Vietnam. Prior to that appointment, he was Secondary Headteacher (Principal) at Bishop Mackenzie International School in Lilongwe, Malawi. He has also served as Director of Student Services (Secondary Principal) and Head of Science at the American-British Academy in Oman, and Vice Principal and IB Co-ordinator at Copenhagen International School. Martin thus has extensive experience in administration and teaching in a variety of educational systems, most of which have focussed on the IB Diploma.

Together with his wife, Cherry, Martin has two daughters, Harriet (who is studying at university level in the UK) and Rebecca (who will complete her IB Diploma in May this year). Martin s main teaching area is Biology, in which field he holds a B.Sc. (Hons) together with a M.Sc. (Distinction) in Resource Management. He also has great interest and considerable expertise in computing and information technology.

His diverse interests include travelling and trekking (especially in the Himalayas), squash, tennis, reading contemporary literature, and much more.

The selection of Director of Studies was made after undertaking interviews at the College by a panel that included the Chairman of the Board and the Chair of the Board s Staffing Committee in addition to the Principal. The panel faced the challenging task of making a selection from an excellent field of more than 40 applicants, including five extremely able applicants from within LPCUWC. Having brought the selection to a successful conclusion, the panel is very excited by the expertise and experience that Martin will bring to this crucially important position within the College.
