Three years from when it was launched in 2015, Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC) has already unlocked around HK$6.4 million of matched funding from Davis-UWC IMPACT Challenge. Now in a new academic year, LPCUWC targets completing the Challenge by July 31, 2019, eventually unlocking the remaining HK1.4 million in matched funding.
Started in August 2015, the Challenge was inspired by UWC Patron Shelby Davis who donated US$1 million (HK$7.8 million) in matched funds to each of the 17 UWC schools and colleges across the globe. It envisions enhancing engagement in the UWC Community, providing more scholarship opportunities and broadening the reach of the UWC Mission.
In order to qualify for the fund matching, each UWC school or college needs to achieve a year-on-year increase in both number of alumni and friends-donors and amount of donations received. Matching is guided by three criteria: increase in number of new or repeat alumni and/or parent donors, increments in overall donations compared to last year, and annual accumulated amount of new or repeat donations.
LPCUWC is grateful to its alumni and friends who have allowed the College to unlock HK$6.4 million from the matching funds in the past three years. With around HK$1.4 million in matched funds left to unlock and around 10 months to go, LPCUWC is enthusiastic about more opportunities of support and partnerships from our alumni and friends.
