As the fundraising campaign for a scholarship for an overseas student inspired by two of our teachers was approaching the finishing line, alumni, teachers and friends also upped their speed in the race.
On 17 October, we wrapped up the scholarship fundraising campaign, moderately exceeding our target of 100 backers and raising a total of HK$73,650. The amount generated represented 24% of our goal: HK$300,000.
Our teachers, Hayley Goldberg and Marit Zahkna, inspired the campaign. They sparked interest in bridging an overseas scholar from a humble background to a transformative education at Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC) with their participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships held early September this year in Fort Elizabeth in South Africa.
Their campaign has also motivated students to test their limits by engaging in athletic events, including triathlons, relay races and advocacy runs for health and well-being.
The amount raised will be potentially matched via Davis-UWC IMPACT challenge at LPCUWC and form part of continuing efforts to build up our scholarship program intended to benefit more overseas students from humble backgrounds.
