LPC Alum Tammy Sandhu MBE Appointed as Britain’s Next Ambassador to the Holy See

We are thrilled to share another remarkable achievement from our LPC alumni community!

Congratulations to Tammy Sandhu MBE, LPCUWC Class of 2000, on her historic appointment as His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Holy See.

Since joining the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in 2005, Tammy has built a distinguished career. With this new appointment, she makes history as the first woman of Indian origin to represent the United Kingdom as an Ambassador.

Prior to this role, Tammy held a series of prominent diplomatic positions. She recently served as His Majesty's Consul General to San Francisco, where she led UK-US engagement across California and the Pacific Northwest. Her extensive international experience also includes roles as Deputy Head of Mission in Chennai, India, and Deputy Spokesperson at the UK Representation to the EU in Brussels, alongside diplomatic service postings in Iraq, Kenya, and Morocco.

In recognition of her dedicated advocacy toward racial equity and inclusion within the UK's diplomatic service, Tammy was also awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2021.

Tammy is eager to bring her experience to her new role, which she will officially take up in August 2026.

“As we navigate an era shaped by conflict, AI, and profound social change, I look forward to deepening our collaboration on supporting peacebuilding efforts around the world, tackling violence against women and girls, and promoting ethical approaches to emerging technologies. It’s a privilege to continue this vital work," stated Tammy.

Reflecting on her journey, Tammy credits her time at LPC for shaping both her professional and personal worldview.

"My time at LPC was truly transformative. I was surrounded by people who helped shape my worldview, helped me to develop my resilience, and gave me the confidence to pursue ambitious goals. Professionally, the values and experiences from UWC have influenced my approach to leadership, diplomacy, inclusion, and community engagement. They instilled a strong sense of social responsibility, empathy, and adaptability, which continue to guide my decisions and actions."

We are incredibly proud of Tammy’s meaningful milestones. We cannot wait to see her continue to champion UWC values as a beacon of peacebuilding in our world.
