What does it mean to exemplify the transformative power of volunteering?
Our Class of 2026 graduates, Mandy and Alex, recently sat down with the editor of Caritas Hong Kong to discuss their leadership experiences in Caritas Tai Wai Quan Cai (QC).

Coming from two entirely different backgrounds, the duo brought unique perspectives to the initiative. Alex, hailing from Slovakia, already held a deep connection to the world of special needs, having volunteered at a specialised training centre before arriving at LPC. Mandy, on the other hand, stepped into the role with less prior experience with the community.
Despite their different starting points, both joined Caritas Tai Wai QC in their first year and stepped up as leaders in their second—embarking on a journey that proved to be profoundly transformative.
"The innocent aspirations of the children we serve—even something as simple as going to the playground—reminded me to reflect on the importance of cherishing simple joys in our own lives," Alex shared, when asked how the QC had shifted his mindset.
For Mandy, the impact was equally resonant, teaching her to remember that life is shaped by small moments and reinforcing the value of genuine, human interaction.
By witnessing their students’ progress firsthand, Mandy and Alex didn’t just develop crucial leadership skills; they forged a deeper, more empathetic connection with the community.
