Designing for a Greener Future

ree

Congratulations to Eunice, our Year 2 student, for making the Top 40 in the 6th MY STAGE Hong Kong Secondary School Sustainable Fashion Design Competition!

Echoing the competition’s theme, Eunice’s design reflects the changes in biodiversity and natural scenery she witnessed growing up in the New Territories.

Growing up in the rural areas of Yuen Long and Ma On Shan, Eunice has watched Hong Kong’s skyline rise and its natural scenes recede. “I have noticed how there are more skyscrapers and bland residential buildings that are taking up the countryside scenery. While it is a perk of Hong Kong, it is also worsening our species diversity and amazing natural views,” said Eunice.

Prioritising safer dyes and less waste, her design explores biodegradable, plant-based dyes such as indigo; she hopes to reduce the chemicals and microplastics that end up in our waters. Eunice also considers utility and durability, aiming to mitigate the consumption of fast-fashion trends.

“As a teenager nowadays, I often find myself a victim of fast fashion and caught in the constant chase of trends. Thus, I aim to reduce that as I continue to explore studies in sustainability and fashion design. Through this, I hope to change the world, bit by bit.”

You can support Eunice’s efforts by voting for her in the Most Popular Design Sketch Award and the Most Popular Sustainable Fashion Award on the good morning CLASS Facebook page starting tomorrow, 21 November.

Let’s build the future changemakers together.
