LPCUWC Student Team Wins Award for Sustainable Hospitality Design

ree

Congratulations to our Year 2 students, Cristina, Daisy, Keira, and Mandy, for winning second place at the "Tomorrow's Guestroom in the Hotel Industry" competition! The award presentation ceremony was held on 11 October.

Organised by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) and Hotel ICON, the competition challenged students to set new standards by designing a hotel room for the future.

Reflecting on the experience, the team shared: "We saw it as an ideal interdisciplinary platform to explore our passion for sustainable innovation, and more importantly, demonstrate our commitment to the UWC value of sustainable development. We weren't just aiming to win; we wanted to push the boundaries of what a guestroom can be—making it smarter, more personalised, and fundamentally more eco-conscious."

Their design focused on a crucial balance: business acumen, advanced technology, and a deep commitment to eco-friendliness and well-being. Through rigorous business research, interviews, and collaboration, they developed a holistic proposal for a guestroom 50 years from now, featuring human wellness, sustainable development, and technological innovation.

"We are grateful for this incredible opportunity, which allowed us to propose visionary ideas for the future of hospitality. It has equipped us with a deeper understanding of the industry, and we believe this is a significant step on our way to a lifelong commitment to sustainable development,” the team concluded.

Well done to Cristina, Daisy, Keira, and Mandy! We are very proud of their achievement and the values they represent.
