Coral Monitoring
Coral monitoring has long been one of the special Quan Cai (QC) programmes of LPC, enabling students to directly participate in marine conservation through assisting organizations and locations including Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park, Living Seas Hong Kong (LSHK), Hong Kong Wetlands and Conservation Association (HKWCA). The QC uniquely allows students to have integrated experience in all aspects of CAS - Creativity, Activity and Service. Keira, the current student leader of Coral Monitoring, has identified that ‘[it] is such a unique experience as it trains students to have long term commitment to the environment after finishing the UWC program’, making it extend beyond a 2 year QC programme at LPC.
Marine Science

In this academic year, as an adjacent program to coral monitoring, the marine science IB course is launched in LPC. LPCUWC is the 2nd UWC to have this special course after UWC Pearson in Canada. The course embodies all the science disciplines into one course that combines theoretical learning with practical, hands-on experience in the field. One of the marine science teachers, Craig, highlighted that, ‘students are encouraged to explore the marine environment and make the most of LPC’s unique setting on Hong Kong's coastline.’
How it all CONNECTS
Many aspiring marine scientists took the precious opportunity to participate in both programs and experience their interdependence. Emma, a first year in both marine science and coral monitoring shares her experience, ‘with the subject, now we are more familiar in understanding the marine ecosystem in HK especially for the services that we have done to protect the marine environment (mangrove and oyster restoration, biodiversity, etc.)’ In the upcoming year, we look forward to more exciting events!
