Our Year 1 students, Ella from Canada and Annie from China, proudly represented Hong Kong, China at the inaugural Wetland School Network-Asia Conference, held from 10 to 12 December in Haikou, China.

Organised by the China Wetland School Network (CWSN), the three-day conference brought together over a hundred young learners, teachers, and environmental conservationists from across Southeast Asia, including Korea, India, Mongolia, and Cambodia.

As a school collaborator with WWF Hong Kong, LPC was delighted to have Annie and Ella represent our community. During a keynote session, they presented an overview of LPC’s environmental initiatives, highlighting our partnership with WWF, our unique Coral Monitoring, and the Green Pioneers for Sustainability (GPS) Cai programmes.

Beyond their presentation, Annie and Ella seized the opportunity to learn from peers and experts in the field across the region. They also participated in the tour of Haikou Wetland School and a local Wetland Park, providing hands-on experience with conservation efforts.

For Ella, the conference was an enlightening experience for her, "Being able to understand the dedication of students from neighbouring countries to create sustainable practices internationally was inspiring. Learning from peers from at least six different countries was incredibly meaningful. I believe the most important part of being a student passionate about conservation is creating global connections with people who share a common goal, which is why this conference was so memorable. I am now more inspired than ever to engage in international discussions on wildlife conservation."

Annie highlighted the practical knowledge and connections she gained. "I listened to speeches from officials and representatives from across Southeast Asia," she said. "I took extensive notes on the remarkable activities and novel ideas presented—insights I believe we can implement at LPC or in my own future projects. Moreover, I made friends with many students and established meaningful connections that I hope will last."

Well done again to Ella and Annie on this significant achievement! We look forward to seeing these learnings come alive in the future.
